Abstract

Plumbon Village is a village located in Porong District, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, which is geographically close to the historical site of Pari Temple, a local cultural heritage. However, elementary school students' understanding and historical literacy of local history in the surrounding area are still relatively low. This condition indicates the need for creative and contextual educational efforts to foster historical awareness from an early age. This community service program aims to strengthen local historical literacy through a creative approach for students of SDN Plumbon 2. The implementation method of the activity is carried out through two main work programs, namely a coloring competition for Pari Temple pictures for lower grades (I-III) and an essay writing competition or local historical literacy for upper grades (IV-VI). The activities are carried out in a participatory manner by involving teachers and students as active partners. The results of the activities show an increase in enthusiasm, a basic understanding of the history of Pari Temple, and students' ability to express historical knowledge through visual and written works. In addition, this activity is able to foster a sense of pride and concern for local cultural heritage. Thus, the creative approach in the community service program has proven effective as a strategy to strengthen local history literacy in elementary school students and has the potential to become a culture-based education model that can be replicated in other elementary schools in the surrounding area.
